It's Only Love
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (July, 1992)
Author: Linda Cashdan
Average review score:

Wonderful book about true love, despite years and obstacles.
This is a well-written, fabulous book that I loved. Granted, it is a little on the stereotypical side, but it is never quite predictable. The grand revelation is quite shocking, and adds to the beauty of this book. A good story of true love, to say the least.

The Jugglers
Published in Paperback by Four Seasons Publishers (September, 1999)
Authors: Joseph B. Gregg and Joseph B. Gregs
Average review score:

A very interesting read
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to college, Dr. Gregg shows you otherwise. The story is filled with all of the foibles of humanity and a few more reserved for college administrators. Things happen fast, once they are started. You won't want to put the book down. There is murder, drug dealing, gangs, mob activity, larceny, lust - another words, something for everyone.

Keeping Hearth & Home in Old Massachusetts : A Practical Primer for Everyday Living
Published in Hardcover by Menasha Ridge Press (01 October, 2001)
Author: Carol Padgett

Keeping Hearth and Home in Old Alabama, by Dr. Carol Padgett
Carol,

This paragraph from your book got my attention because it affirms that discovering one's life purpose is important, even affecting courtship. One of my favorite stories about Stretch and Joan is about how Stretch read his mission and vision statement for life to Joan early in their relationship, which she says helped her start falling in love with him. The "requisites" listed in the statement cited below also serve as inspiration for one's personal vision in a plan for life, which can help anyone with inspiration and guidance.

"The essential requisites in a companion that are necessary to insure happiness and a life of devotion are to be found in strength of character, a healthy body, a judicious head, a loving heart, all brought into attune with a high and holy life purpose." [Page 31, Keeping Hearth and Home in Old Alabama, by Dr. Carol Padgett citing wisdom published in 1872].

Thanks for your book, which provided inspirational Sunday morning reading.

Land of the Commonwealth: A Portrait of the Conserved Landscapes of Massachusetts
Published in Hardcover by Univ. of Massachusetts Press (01 October, 2000)
Authors: Richard Cheek, John Updike, and Robert E. Cook
Average review score:

Breathtaking!
Each turn of the page reveals another exceptional view. It's easy to take gorgeous landscape photos of New England in Autumn, but Richard Creek goes far beyond that. The lighting, cloud conditions, reflections, and seasonal conditions bring out the most in each photograph. I want to frame each one and hang it on my walls, or better still, visit each place and hope to see and capture a similar moment. I hope Mr. Creek follows up with a series of other states.

Lay This Laurel
Published in Hardcover by Eakin Press (December, 2001)
Authors: Lincoln Kirstein and Richard Benson
Average review score:

Immortal Memorial
Generally hailed as America's finest Civil War memorial--maybe the most powerful memorial to any American war--the St. Gaudens masterpiece on Boston Common has inspired poetry, music, and probably a movie, "Glory." Lincoln Kirstein has written a stirring essay on the subjects: Colonel Shaw and his Massachusetts 54th Regiment (black), what they meant to their contemporaries, and their message for today. Although the photographs were taken in a bleak period for the Memorial (it badly needed restoration, which it received shortly after this book came out), Richard Benson's photographs are still powerful, able to transmit with finesse the messages of Shaw, his black comrades, St. Gaudens, and Lincoln Kirstein. It's a beautiful book, a labor of love.

Legal Tactics: Self-Defense for Tenants in Massachusetts (Massachusetts Law Reform Series)
Published in Paperback by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. (April, 1993)
Author: Annette R. Duke
Average review score:

Defenseless No More!
This book became my bible many years ago when I worked in housing services as a paralegal. Even though I have moved from Mass I still put the basics to the test in NH. This book is filled with valuable information and resources. Having spent most of my time in a housing court, I know that this book has been put to the test by Lawyers, Judges, and many other professionals in and out of the field of housing. If you are a tenant there is no longer an excuse for being a victim. Everything you need to know about rental housing, unfair debt collection practices, consumer protection, subsidized housing, rent control, mobil homes, and much more is contained in this book.

Life Designs: A Novel
Published in Hardcover by Zoland Books (October, 1997)
Author: Elaine Ford
Average review score:

A wonderful novel
This understated, beautifully written novel ranges over three decades in the life of Meg Mowbry. Elaine Ford covers a great deal of complex emotional territory -- how people change, or fail to change, over time; how long-ago actions and events continue to shape our lives; how we understand many of our own choices only in retrospect. But what's most amazing about Ford as a writer is how economically she accomplishes all this, and how skillful she is not just about which details to highlight, but which to leave out. After I finished the book I found myself missing Meg -- and even more, I missed the sound of Elaine Ford's quiet voice, making sense of life.
